Philadelphia City Council Unanimously Passes Public Access Bills

October 25, 2007

This morning Bill Nos. 70793 and 70794 were unanimously passed by Philadelphia's City Council. The first bill approved the public access amendments to the City's Franchise Agreement with Comcast and the second approved the leasing of the City-owned property at 2531 Lehigh Ave to the future Public Access Corporation. This will be the future home of the public access studio and facilities.

We have successfully cleared the final legislative hurdle to establishing the public access system!

Next steps:

Within the next few weeks Mayor John Street and Council president Anna Verna will sign the Articles of Incorporation for the non-profit that will oversee the public access system. An interim board of directors in is the process of being appointed. We are optimistic that Philadelphia's first public access channel will go on air in January 2008.
