Honorable Anna C. Verna, President
Dear Council President Verna,
More than fifteen years have passed since City Council first promised the residents
of Philadelphia the opportunity to communicate and learn through public access
cable facilities. More than 2,000 public access systems exist nationwide, and
Philadelphia remains the only major city in the country failing to provide this
resource for the people of its community.
Our organization is one of many which make up the rich and vital social fabric
of Philadelphia, and we would like to see the creation of a state-of-the-art
public access system for our use. Public access would provide us with greater
means of promoting our activities throughout the neighborhoods of Philadelphia.
This would be beneficial to both our organization and to the city as a whole.
As one of the organizations of the Philadelphia Community Access Coalition
(PCAC), we are in full support of the establishment of public access based on
Ordinance #1963 and original cable franchise agreements. We respectfully urge
you to take the necessary action to make public access a reality in Philadelphia.
Sincerely,
