MS. KING: Thank you, dear. I do give honor to God, my savior, and to the Councilman, Mr. Cohen, and to the members of the Council here.
My name is Mrs. King. I live at 1630 South 19th Street. And I am the Block Captain. I'm here also to represent -- I'm the Block Captain of the 1600 block of South 19th. I also represent the Point Breeze Network.
The purpose of the network is an organization working together for the benefit and for the betterment to benefit the city, to benefit our community, and to gather our people together, and to work together. We are a voice, and we are working to help the people here in our community, in the City of Philadelphia.
We meet once a month at various public places, such as St. Catharine's, St. Agnes, St. Thomas Aquinas. In fact, I think our chairman was at one our meetings, Mr. Cohen. And we raise funds, we work -- we help the funds. We have like -- we have sidewalk sales, we have bake sales, and other things that we do to raise money that I do not have here on this sheet. In fact, I just wrote these little things down before I came up. We do these things to help to raise money for papers, materials that we need to inform the people of the community.
With the access of TV of this TV for the Point Breeze Network, it would help us inform the people more clearly with the voice, they could be seen and heard. We inform the people now and as it is with flyers. We make at least over 5,000 flyers to inform the people, to communicate with them. Communication without a voice is dead.
With TV, it would be -- with this public access TV, it would be a great help. And if I may say, a dynamite help. It is also a help to those who are in, it would help the youth, educational, culture, the youth of our city to know better, to help crime in our city. It would bring the people to motivate themselves more better, to get themselves together. Unfortunately, there are people who can't even come out, to know what's going on, and what the things are that they need.
We're living in a world today that is so certain. So many things happen that we just dope even know how they happened, but they do happen. With the access of this public TV, it would help the people. It would be a great voice for them. It would be giving the information that we cannot reach the people here in this great city.
I say to you, we not only need this, we want it. We're hoping and even praying that we will have access to the public access to this TV to let the people know what is going on and how they can help each other. Again, we need the public access. This is the voice that could be heard.
I hope that I have heard some time from our grass roots that that government of the people and for the people and by the people shouldn't perish from the earth. But it seems to me here lately that so many things happen here at City Hall and so many things has happened all around our country here in America. I hope that it will not be in vain and that government of the people and for the people has not perished from the earth. It also helps the people to know that they are needed. We need one another. And to need one another so people can get more involved.
So I am hoping that through this public access and through the Point Breeze organizations, that they will help us to be more informed. I say this and I thank you for listening to me. I thank you for this opportunity 'cause I'm not a speaker. But I praise God for you and for all the Councilmen here to listen to me as I bring this to you from our network, the Point Breeze Network of Philadelphia.
Thank you so much. And I'd like to thank each one of you for letting me go ahead of you, all right?
COUNCILMAN ORTIZ: Thank you.
(Applause.)
